Understanding Pity in Honkai Star Rail
The pity system in Honkai Star Rail is designed to ensure players eventually get rare characters and light cones even if they have bad luck. Here's how it works:
Character Event Warps
- Hard pity: Guaranteed 5★ character at 90 pulls if you haven't pulled one yet
- Soft pity: Increased chance of getting a 5★ starting from around pull 74
- 50/50 chance: Your first 5★ has a 50% chance to be the featured character
- Guarantee: If your previous 5★ wasn't the featured character, the next 5★ will be guaranteed to be the featured character
Light Cone Event Warps
- Hard pity: Guaranteed 5★ light cone at 80 pulls if you haven't pulled one yet
- Soft pity: Increased chance of getting a 5★ starting from around pull 65
- 75/25 chance: Your first 5★ has a 75% chance to be the featured light cone
- Guarantee: If your previous 5★ wasn't the featured light cone, the next 5★ will be guaranteed to be the featured light cone
Standard Warp
- Hard pity: Guaranteed 5★ at 90 pulls for characters
- Soft pity: Increased chance starting from around pull 74
- No guarantee: The 5★ you get is random from the standard pool
Frequently Asked Questions
Does pity carry over between banners?
Yes, pity counters carry over between banners of the same type. For example, if you pulled 50 times on one character event warp without getting a 5★, your pity counter for the next character event warp will start at 50.
How does the 50/50 system work?
When you pull a 5★ character on the character event warp, there's a 50% chance it will be the featured character. If you don't get the featured character, your next 5★ is guaranteed to be the featured character. This guarantee carries over between character event warps.
What is soft pity?
Soft pity is when your chances of getting a 5★ start to increase before reaching hard pity. For character warps, soft pity begins around pull 74, with the chance increasing with each pull. For light cone warps, soft pity begins around pull 65.
How can I track my pity?
You can track your pity in-game by checking your warp records. The game keeps a history of your pulls, allowing you to count how many pulls you've made since your last 5★. Alternatively, you can use this calculator to help you track your pity and estimate your chances.
Should I always pull until pity?
It depends on your goals. If you really want the featured character or light cone, pulling until pity ensures you'll eventually get it. However, if you're saving for future banners, you might want to set a limit on how many pulls you're willing to make.
Tips for Managing Your Pulls
- Always keep track of your pity counter for each banner type
- Save your Star Rail Special Passes and Stellar Jade if you're close to pity and waiting for a specific banner
- Remember that getting a 5★ before pity resets your counter
- Consider your guarantee status when planning which banners to pull on
- The average number of pulls to get a 5★ is around 65-70 due to soft pity
