About the Genshin Impact Wish System
What is Wishing in Genshin Impact?
Wishing is Genshin Impact's gacha system that allows players to obtain new characters and weapons. Players spend Primogems or Acquaint/Intertwined Fates to make wishes on various banners, each with different featured items and drop rates.
Understanding Pity and Guarantees
Genshin Impact uses a pity system to ensure players eventually get rare items. If you don't pull a 5-star item within a certain number of wishes, the game guarantees one. For character and standard banners, this happens at 90 wishes, while the weapon banner guarantees a 5-star at 80 wishes.
Additionally, there's a "soft pity" system that significantly increases 5-star rates starting around wish 75 for character/standard banners and wish 65 for the weapon banner.
The 50/50 System
On character event banners, when you pull a 5-star, there's a 50% chance it will be the featured character. If you don't get the featured character (losing the 50/50), your next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured character. This guarantee carries over between banners of the same type.
Weapon Banner Epitomized Path
The weapon banner has an additional system called Epitomized Path. Players can select one of the two featured 5-star weapons as their target. Each time they receive a 5-star weapon that isn't their chosen one, they gain 1 Fate Point. With 2 Fate Points, the next 5-star weapon is guaranteed to be the chosen one.
Saving Strategies
F2P (free-to-play) and low-spending players often save Primogems for months to guarantee getting specific characters. With the pity system, players can calculate exactly how many Primogems they need to guarantee a featured 5-star character (up to 28,800 Primogems in the worst-case scenario).
